Understand Dental crowns
A crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is placed over a tooth to cover it, improving its appearance by regaining the tooth’s size, shape, and strength. The entire visible region of a tooth that is located at and above the gum line will be completely enclosed by the crown after it is firmly affixed in place.
Understand Dental Bridges
A dental bridge is a fixed dental device that is used to “bridge” the area between teeth and close the gap left by a missing tooth. A dental bridge is frequently used coupled with a crown to enhance your smile and your capacity for proper speech, chewing, and food consumption. With zirconia crowns and Maryland bridges, we can restore the shapes and health of teeth like other healthy teeth.
Who requires a Dental Bridge?
When a person has a missing tooth or teeth, he/she requires a dental bridge. The most common causes of missing tooth/teeth are tooth decay, injury, gum disease, or a congenital condition from birth. Furthermore, for a dental bridge, the person should have healthy teeth on either side of the missing ones.
The procedure of a Dental Bridge
Usually, two sittings are required for a successful Dental Bridge. Let’s take a sneak peek into the procedures.
- Preparation of the abutment teeth: During your initial visit, your doctor will reshape the abutment teeth. To make room for the crown, some of the enamel and dentin will be removed.
- Impressions: Your dentist takes digital scans of your teeth or takes impressions of them. Your bridge, fake teeth, and crowns are all made in a dental laboratory using the mold or scan as a model. It takes a couple of days to make your bridge in the lab. During that period, you will have a temporary bridge to cover the exposed parts of your mouth.
- Placement of the permanent bridge: During your second visit, your doctor will replace the temporary bridge with the new one. To ensure the bridge fits you comfortably, your provider will thoroughly inspect it and make any necessary modifications.
